Holiday Cottage Brittany - The Town |
The South Brittany holiday gite is located in the town of Audierne in the Finistere region of Brittany which lies on a sheltered bay at the mouth of the Goyen River and is a fishing village with large sand beaches.
It is still actively involved in the fishing industry and its restaurants are full of France’s freshest fish.
For a suberb meal, we recommend the 3-star hotel "Le Goyen". From the balcony or the sunny terrace, one can watch the comings and goings of the fishing boats and watch the unloading of the fish to be sold wharfside.

Enjoy less formal, but delicious food at our favorite restaurant, le Grand Large, which sits upon a cliffside overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Its specialties are mussels of every kind.
Take a trips out to sea in a traditional lobster boat or take the ferry around the Pointe du Raz to Île de Sein.
Setting off to reach the island on a misty morning feels as though you're sailing off the edge of the world. There are no cars on the island, and even bicycles are not permitted. Nowhere does it rise more than six metres above the surrounding ocean

Lose yourself in its tiny back streets, The picturesque white houses with brightly coloured shutters will enchant you. In la rue de l’Amiral Guépratte, go into La Chaumière – a thatched house which has kept all of its 17th century furnishings, where locals will explain old traditions and objects to you. It’s a museum, officially, but it doesn’t seem like one.
Also of interest are the exhibits in the Museé Maritime.
The 17th-century Eglise St-Raymond-Nonnat, which overlooks the town, is decorated with carvings of ships and has a striking Baroque belfry
Along the harbour stretches the town's main shopping area with its cafés, bars and restaurants, crêperies, boutiques, the town hall, the tourism office, and a movie theatre.
Saturday and Wednesday mornings there is a farmers' market, where you can browse the stalls for local specialties to bring back to your self-catering holiday cottage.

Holiday Cottage Brittany - The Bar de la Mer |
At the inland end of town, a new aquarium holds tankfuls of mostly local fish, captioned as ever with the stress on gastronomy – "the flesh is firm and much enjoyed".
From the town centre, the road continues just over 1km to the long, curving, sheltered beach of Ste-Evette. Other beaches are even closer to the holiday cottage. Hiking paths hug the coastline for miles.
