South Brittany Cuisine - In the words of Anthony Bourdain |
South Brittany Cuisine and Seafood - Towers of Shellfish
Oysters, mussels and other ‘fruits de mer’ dominate the Breton cuisine.
Simple dishes made with superb ingredients are the spirit of the local gastronomy.
Breton butter, often salted with sea salt, is used on and in everything.
The area is also famous for its galettes (savoury buckwheat pancakes) crèpes (sweet wheat flour pancakes) cider, mead and beer.
Basically, fresh and well-cared for seafood, milk, apples and wheat are the root of Brittany’s recipes and dishes.
From Anthony Bourdain's Blog:
...when the crew sits down for a break, when the show's over, cameras put aside, there's food. Delicious, delicious things coming at us from every direction. Mountain ranges of shellfish tower everywhere you look: oysters, lobsters, crabs, periwinkles, clams, shrimp and prawns...
